Copyright Permission Attempt!

For the Music Video i need to get permission to use the music i am planning to make a video for to clear up any confusion with copyright laws with the company that owns the song. I can not use this song without full permission due to the fact there would be confusion about why i have made a video and whether it was intended to make money of of someone else's work. Obviously i am only intending to create my own  interpretation of the song in video form in order to try and get a decent mark for my overall coursework grade.

I haven't yet reached the actual recording company who own the song however i have asked this site whether they know of the place i need to email to get the permission for the use of the song and to create the music video for my product.

Music Video Props

For props within my music video i have taken a thorough look into what clothes are worn in previous Arctic Monkey's videos and i have discovered from watching them that they are fairly similar.

Leather Jackets
Leather jackets were a must when I first decided to create an arctic monkeys video as I felt it for the genre well and my decision was further encouraged when watching 'Why'd you only call me when you're high?' Music video as the lead member of the band, Alex Turner, wears the jacket throughout and the song choice 'Do I Wanna Know?' Is such a similar song that I thought this choice of prop clothing was very suitable and the best and most appropriate choice for my main characters here.

Black Skinny Jeans
Black skinny jeans were a definite for the video aswell as I noticed that in other
Music Videos made jeans are very popularly worn and to keep up with the Arctic Monkeys style of black cool clothing I felt that black skinny jeans were the best choice. Jeans are worn in Arctic Monkeys videos including 'R U Mine' and again 'Why'd you only call me when you're high?' So I thought the best idea was to stick with their house style to suit the genre of the music choice.

White T's
My choice of using white t-shirts is a choice I made for many reasons. I felt if I put black jackets on then to contrast white t-shirts should be worn as this style can relate to plenty of genres but as a main Rock and Indie bands which is what Arctic Monkeys could label under. I also thought to suit their style again as a second reason as this is the case in 'R U Mine?'. My final reason to wear white t-shirts would be that if I copy the shirt basically to what my main character is wearing then it would go along with the confusing natured storyline of the video and that if Alec is wearing similar clothes to the person he thinks is taking his girl then it will make him more delusional and he will come across as increasingly hallucinated.

Alec's Car!
This is going to be a main part of the video as Alec is going to be firstly taking the girl into this car whilst he does his drugs following onto actually driving after his girl towards the marina and also then this will mean I can pull of my dolly track shot by the side of the car whilst he mimes within it so this car I a very vital piece of my filming and final cut I will create.

iPhone
This prop will ultimately be the beginning and end of my video as this will be what Alec receives his call on from Maisey at the start when he is unsure whether to accept the call or not and it will also be at the end when he answers but it's not real and it's what his brain makes him think he should have done aswell as being the phone ringing at the end to bring him back to reality when the drugs wear off.

Location Photographs & Practiced Angled Shots

The following photos of a wall are the different shots I will be interpreting when at the start of the video Alec & Haaris are talking about the girl and about whether it is the right thing to do or not.
These are basic shots to help myself, my actors and viewers understand the situation and area I am filming in.
The reason my hand is in the photo is that it is representing a dirty over shot which will show the car in the background with Alec driving after Maisey  in it and it is basically trying to show the viewer the view that will be take. When the movie is cut at the end. When all is said and done and edited of course.

These are my main few shots that set the scene of the video minus my tracking shot and close ups.
My other shots of Alec's garage and the band performing within will be available when I have had the chance to take them but these are my most important photos of my locations around Portishead.

Actors - Alec, Haaris, Maisey & Myself

The first photo is of Alec Playford who is essentially the main part in my video and is playing the role of the man chasing after a woman and hallucinating throughout the video. I have chosen Alec as he has been my best mate for basically my whole life and is reliable to be there for me when I need to film this product. He is also very influenced by music and is a big fan of Arctic Monkeys and so understands the band well and how they are in videos. He is also quite good at doing drama and can act well so he would play a good part in the video.

The second person here is Going to be playing the girl in my video that Alec has met on a night out and has been planning to see for a while but she is unsure because of his deal with drugs which is has been made clear to Alec and which is why he is hallucinating about her changing her mind about him and go for the other guy. This girl who I have chosen for the part is my girlfriend and very reliable to count on to be in my music video as she can meet me whenever I need to film.
This third picture is of Haaris and he is another of my best mates and fits the part well and has a good fashion sense to suit the video. Haaris will be playing my main man's best mate who stays wih him throughout the video and will play a third wheel approach and he is also the man supplying Alec with the drugs. Haaris is also a good actor and has a huge interest in music and Arctic Monkeys so has a good background interest in the band and their music. He is also good at drama and has been in my previous movie opening product last year with Alec in which he and Alec did a good job and were out at all hours to help me get it done.
The final of the actors for the video is myself and I am pretty much certainly going to be there for every cut that I am needed for! I will be playing the part that it confusing Alec and making him think I am taking his girl away and to make him think that he is losing his woman and that he shouldn't be taking the drugs. I am only doing a small part as I need to take control of the camera and I needed someone for a small part and I thought it would be more reliable to use myself as I'm gaurentee to be there.

Location Decisions.

These are the three locations am mainly going to use on my video for 'Do I Wanna Know?'. I have chosen the first of the three as this was my initial plan from the very first time i decided to do an Arctic Monkeys' song and this was the original scenery i started designing from in my storyboard which i will release on to my blog in the next two days, either Sunday or Monday at the latest. This is so itll be ready for my deadline on tuesday and so my research and planning part of the coursework is available to my teachers. i have zoomed into the part on the right as i feel like this is key image from my original screenshot and this is the main screenshot from the very first time i began designing my storyboard and it includes a walkway leading towards the upper left hand side of the zoomed in image which is where i plan to actually film a little chunk of the product.

This is a highly requested part of my storyboard by the people i sent out my questionnaire to and these people are the demographic that the genre of music is tailored to and so i am very interested in the feedback i recieved and i enjoy listening to ideas from around me that are other peoples opinions as it gives me a wider opportunity when it comes to the filming in a week or so. This location is nearer the top of Portishead and is mainly a car park with various garages that people own from around the area it is an ideal place to shoot part of my video and offers a rural background which isnt of top class and can be seen by some people as dirty and slightly rundown.

My third and final key location to shoot my film is at the marina which has been more developed since this bird's eye shot was taken. this was also requested from the results of my questionnaire and would be a good place to film at due to the places around the pictured area. The part that i have zoomed in at could be a decent place to finish how ever i am struck between finishing at quite a high class finish or a lower class finish and this is shown in the last couple parts of my storyboard as i have two alternative endings available to me. the final location is a personal favourite as it ranges from building work, to boats, a restaurant, a small greasy cafe and higher priced properties which with such a range would contrast well with the genre of Arctic Monkeys and the style of props and clothing worn.

Questionnaire Results.

These are an example of my answers i have acquired from  asking my questionnaire from one male and one female, i have got 10 questionnaires back fully answered the answers given are reasonably similar. people agree with the fact i should make a Arctic Monkeys music video and that they would definitely watch it if i did.
In these two above their ages are basically the same with just a years difference at 17 & 18 which is my demographic planned. Both of these people i have asked agreed that they both listen to music regularly and that they listen to quite a bit a week as the male listens to 7-8 hours and the female listens to 5-6 hours.
Favourite genres of music varied in my results as clearly presented in this as i have asked someone who listens to lots of different types of music as their favourites and i have got another who's favourite is clearly Pop.
However both of these people agree that they like Arctic Monkeys' music and that they listen to it. Arctic Monkeys are not a pop band but clearly from this appeal to the people who's favourite genre is pop.
When i have asked what type of props and clothing you'd expect in an video of this band the answers are clear throughout the questionnaires i have received back although they have only offered two answers with Jeans and Leather Jackets which although it is only two answers i can base around these two items and make the rest of the props similar.
Finally I wanted to get a bit of help deciding on where to shoot my video and so I asked what a suitable location could be in Portishead, for this question I only asked people who were from Portishead and knew the town well. Although Portishead is quite a quiet and higher class part of Bristol there are places around that look like they could get away with being available in Arctic Monkeys 'Do I Wanna Know?'. The answers I received are three well known parts of Portishead and they are parts that are suited to the song. However I feel like just because the song is slow that the background around doesn't have to be slightly more rundown. In the Music Video 'Why'd you only call me when you're high?' The location chosen to film in isn't completely grotty or rundown and in fact the place he ends up at us quite posh, the types of places around in the video are Indian takeaways, kebab places and more but this doesn't mean the whole scenery I use has to be the same. The places suggested (Avon way, Marina, and Brampton Way) are actually quite suitable for my video as there are parts of it that could be turned into a Music Video quite well and I will show this in my Location post soon.

I wanted to find out whether people wanted to see a video from me that told a story, showed the band, or did both and the decision from people was more towards just telling a story rather than showing the band although there were 4/10 people who said both so it will go in my mind for consideration whether to go both if that is in my final planned storyboard which I will be also posting imminently.
Finally I obviously wanted to be sure that me making this video would actually get some views and whether people would gladly watch it once created and to see what the opinion was of people, I asked people to be honest and not just put yes to please me and when I received the questionnaires back 10/10 said yes so this gives me confidence to go ahead and create the music video.
